The ask:

Cardiology researchers at the UW School of Medicine wanted three stylistically similar images for a paper describing a surgical method for aortic valve replacement. They needed to show full valve replacement, root valve replacement, and root repair with valve resuspension.

My process:

The clients provided some rough sketches and an outline sharing specifics, including photos of the surgical progress and manufacturer photos of the implant. I conducted research to further understand the procedure and how it would look in real life, adding images to my reference collection.

Results:

I drafted three graphite sketches indicating proportions and placement. After incorporating first-round feedback, I shared one of the images complete with the color and style requested for confirmation. I then painted the final art in Procreate; the project was completed on time and the clients were happy with the final.
